Art in Plexiglass

David Brooks' art work has been purchased for homes and offices throughout the United States. He is presently exhibiting in two California galleries: McCarthy Fine Art & Consulting of Newport Beach, and Ross Watkins Gallery of Palm Desert.

Recently, David was awarded a first prize in category at a juried show at the Weisman Museum of Art at Pepperdine, Malibu. The City National Bank and the Public Library of Malibu will exhibit David's work this fall.

Imagine Productions, in Northern California, representing John Lennon, Yoko Ono and Miles Davis presently exhibit one of David's pictures in their offices. Other corporate commissions are in St. Louis, MO., and Santa Monica, CA.

David was born in Los Angeles, California. He has lived and traveled throughout the world with extended stays in New York City for fifteen years and Paris for two years. He attended Boston University and Principia College. He is a published poet, and has taught school on the Navajo Reservation. His pastimes include rodeo, surfing, snow camping, and ocean kayaking.

As an artist, he is self-taught with occasional instruction at Student's Art League, New York and at the Brentwood Art Center, Los Angeles.

Artist's Statement

"I have no visual plans when I start painting. I let shapes and layers of paint tell me where to go next. I follow a trail of aesthetic accidents.

I find I block the breathing of a painting when I push a preconceived visual idea into the process.

Starting a painting is hard, but knowing when to stop is art.

Images that float are powerful. Plexiglas and Mylar are transparent materials that free images from their own surfaces and the constraints of common framing. Paintings to me are floating windows.

I love the abstract form for it's vibrance and subconscious drift."
